The Chapel of Saint-Fiacre in Melrand preserves remnants of a mural depicting the life of Saint Fiacrius. It was built around 1460 in the Flamboyant Gothic style and is protected as a historic monument; it also has one of the four remarkable rood screens in Brittany.

Culture and History

The protected heritage sites in Melrand also include the Chapelle de Locmaria and the Tumulus de Saint-Fiacre, both of which are protected as historic monuments. The Le Guelhouit Chapel was built in 1683 and is located in the Sarre Valley at the foot of a hill.

Every year between mid-July and mid-September, L’Art dans les Chapelles presents a contemporary work in Melrand’s listed chapels; since 2020, this has taken place in the Saint-Fiacre Chapel. The programme has been held every summer since 1992 and includes free self-guided visits, as well as year-round artist residencies, exhibitions outside the exhibition venues, meetings and workshops.

Water and Paths

The Kerstraquel Pond covers 2 hectares and offers fishing, paths accessible to people with reduced mobility, a picnic area, a playground and toilets. It also has a high density of coarse fish such as pike and perch; rainbow trout are additionally released there several times during the season.
