Culture and history

The tidal mill on Île-d'Arz was built in the 16th century by monks from Rhuys Abbey. It has been fully restored and is operational; visitors can see the entire mechanism that drives the millstone.

The megalithic site of Lious on Île-d'Arz comprises the remains of a dolmen and a circular enclosure and is considered evidence of Neolithic life on the island.

The Church of the Nativity of Notre-Dame on Île-d'Arz is said to have celebrated its millennium a few years ago. The church features carved roof beams and an Engoulant beam.

The “Marins & Capitaines” Museum presents the history of an island community focused on the sea and maritime activities. It displays personal belongings, models, paintings of sailing ships, filmed eyewitness accounts and interactive videos. The museum is open all year round and welcomes groups by appointment.

On Île-d'Arz, visitors can rent bicycles or Rosalies to explore the island's customs paths and hiking trails. The Cale du Mounien is characterised by a micro-cliff, a coastal path and vegetation.

Water

The Centre nautique des Glénans sailing school has a base in Keroland on Île-d'Arz. Public maritime transport between the mainland and Île-d'Arz carries passengers, vehicles and goods under the name “BREIZHGO Île d'Arz”.
