Sarzeau’s natural heritage encompasses a great diversity of landscapes, habitats and rare species within the municipality. The Marais du Duer is known for its ornithological wealth. The “Regards sur le Golfe – Variante par le Duer” route runs from the centre of Sarzeau to the Pointe du Duer; the points mentioned include the Marais du Duer and an ornithological observatory. Sarzeau is one of the 35 municipalities in the Parc naturel régional du Golfe du Morbihan.

Culture and history

The Menhir de Kermaillard is one of Sarzeau’s classified megalithic monuments. The Maison Lesage in the centre of Sarzeau is a historical testament dating from the 16th century. Since its restoration in 2012, the garden of the Maison Lesage has been a publicly accessible, intergenerational place for discovery, exchange and cultural outreach.

The renovated Moulin du Poulhors houses an exhibition of cultural artefacts related to wine culture and a screening room. Sarzeau’s wine project centred around the Moulin du Poulhors was completed in spring 2024 and includes a tasting area where Chenin, Chardonnay and Cabernet franc are scheduled to be available for tasting.

The Domaine de Suscinio was one of the residences of the Dukes of Brittany. It was restored by the département, and tours and cultural events take place there throughout the year. At the Domaine de Suscinio, guided tours and audio guides are available to visitors. The “Vue sur l’océan” route passes by the Château de Suscinio and the Chapelle de Penvins. Some of these sites are incorporated into the visitor scenography of the Château de Suscinio.
