Silfiac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Tourbière de Silfiac-Porh Clud is a continental type 1 ZNIEFF area and encompasses the municipality of Silfiac. The nationally protected plant species Drosera intermedia and Drosera rotundifolia occur in this area.

Nature

The Porhz Klud peat bog is recognised by the European Natura 2000 network and was revitalised from 2008 onwards. The Circuit des étangs du Taulo runs through a wet valley characterised by ponds and numerous wetlands. The GR Lorient-Pontivy long-distance hiking trail also runs near the Porhz Klud peat bog.

Exploring the Countryside

The Circuit des Crêtes du Squel is a 15-kilometre route from Silfiac for hiking and mountain biking. It follows a marked trail along the Quénécan Forest and is open from 1 March to 30 September; outside this period, it is closed because of the hunting season.

The Circuit de Pont Samoël is a moderately difficult, 11-kilometre route with a walking time of around three hours, suitable for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking. It has two possible starting points: Étang de Pont Samoël and the car park at the community hall in the centre of Silfiac. The village of Pont Samoël has a typical mill consisting of three buildings.

Pike, trout, tench and roach are found in Étang de Pont Samoël. Fishing takes place there; fishing from the bank is recommended, while wading provides access to some spots that cannot be reached from the bank.

Culture and History

The southern gable of Chapelle Saint-Laurent has been listed as a Historic Monument since 15 June 1925. At the entrance to the northern transept is a Saint-Nodez spring set into the floor; its water is traditionally believed to relieve foot ailments.

Église Saint-Pierre in Silfiac is dedicated to Saint Peter and dates from the 18th century. The Pardon de Saint-Laurent is celebrated every year on the first Sunday in August.

The Quenouille du Diable is a 5.50-metre-high menhir in the hamlet of Le Moustoir in Silfiac, on the border with the municipality of Lescouët-Gouarec, and is considered one of the most remarkable menhirs in central Brittany.
