Locmariaquer: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Locmariaquer combines megalithic monuments with the coast and water. At the Site des mégalithes de Locmariaquer, a self-guided tour follows a path around three megalithic monuments. Staff provide information there throughout the year about the history of the Grand Menhir brisé, the Tumulus d’Er Grah and the Cairn de la Table des Marchands. In addition, archaeology educators offer activities on prehistoric techniques such as weaving, pottery and body adornment.

Culture and history

The Grand-Menhir de Locmariaquer is the only surviving element of a stone row that was already destroyed in the Neolithic period. Of the Romanesque church Notre Dame de Kerdro, the transept and choir from the 11th century have been preserved; the Romanesque transept and apse were added to the supplementary list of Monuments historiques in 1925.

The Dolmen du Mané-Lud is freely accessible and contains a particularly extensive repertoire of ornaments from passage graves. The Dolmen du Mané-Rutual is a passage grave with a long corridor and a double chamber in which decorated stelae were reused. The Dolmen de la Table des Marchands has several capstones decorated with engravings.

The Tumulus d’Er Grah is a tomb measuring 168 metres long and 30 metres wide. The Dolmen des Pierres Plates is owned by the French state, has been classified as a Monument historique since 1882 and is now located in an area belonging to the Conservatoire du littoral.

Paths and landscape

The footpath Circuit des mégalithes de Locmariaquer follows the coastal path to the Dolmen des Pierres Plates and offers views of Quiberon Bay. The Sentier des mégalithes de Locmariaquer is a 10-kilometre hiking trail with a stated walking time of 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Coast and water

The port of Locmariaquer is a departure point for the numerous islands of the Golfe du Morbihan, the open sea and Quiberon Bay. The Société Nautique de Locmariaquer offers outings with a fleet of five Hobie Island adventure trimarans to explore the Golfe du Morbihan, its rivers and Quiberon Bay; the boats are accessible to everyone.

The Plage de Saint Pierre and the Anse de Ster er Vered are considered suitable locations for board sports. In Locmariaquer, you can swim comfortably at the only beach where swimming is also easy at low tide.
