Roudouallec: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Roudouallec lies at the foot of the Montagnes Noires and is described as the last stop in Morbihan before Finistère.

Landscape and Geographical Setting

The yew tree of Roudouallec is around 500 years old and classified as a “remarkable tree of Morbihan”. Inside the hollow trunk of the yew near Notre-Dame de Lorette is a stone slab serving as a seat for meditation and offerings.

Nature and Sacred Sites

Below the Chapelle Saint-Michel are the Fontaine Saint-Michel and its stream, which still mark the boundary between Roudouallec and Gourin. The Chapelle Saint-Michel overlooks the village of Le Moustoir and was built in 1877.

The Fontaine Saint-Venec Kéréon is located in a private pasture enclosed by an electric fence, about 50 metres south of the calvary. It is approximately one metre high.

Culture and History

The bell tower of the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette church dates from 1772 and is crowned by two storeys with lantern turrets. The Chapelle Saint-Michel contains a high altar from the 17th century with decorative motifs from the rood screen of Saint Maudé in Guiscriff. The furnishings also include two polychrome wooden statues from the same period. A 15th-century Madonna and Child uses sandstone as the only statue in the region; there is also a depiction of Saint Michael defeating the dragon, dating from the 16th century and dedicated to the patron saint of the building.

At the megalithic site of Guernangoué, three visible slate blocks have been preserved, only one of which is still standing upright. The Menhir of Guernangoué belonged to a stone row destroyed in 1967 and, like the Menhir of Petit Moustoir, dates from the Late Neolithic. The standing menhir is more than four metres high; one of the fallen blocks bears an engraving with a shield motif and a “P” motif.

Castel Vouden is a medieval enclosure with a broad earth rampart that served as a fortification.
