Campénéac: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Campénéac, the Château de Trécesson is the only château designated by the municipality as open to the public. Guided tours there begin every hour; groups are limited to 18 visitors.

History

The Tombeau du Géant, also known as Roche à la Vieille, is a megalithic monument erected around 2200 BC from three standing stones; today, the surviving stone components are visible. It is located on private property and is not accessible from mid-September to the end of March.

Nature and Tradition

The Pas aux Biches chestnut tree is a remarkable tree in Brittany: it is approximately 20 metres tall, has a circumference of 9.20 metres and has stood in Campénéac for more than 400 years. Its fruit traditionally played an important role in the local diet; flour and dishes were made from it, helping numerous generations get through the winter.

Walks and Sightseeing

The Circuit des Landes Rennaises circular trail (No. 22) begins in Campénéac, is 12 kilometres long and takes three hours. It leads through the heaths of Brocéliande, with viewpoints over the forest massif along the way. The trail returns to La Joie Notre-Dame Abbey, where biscuits and other delicacies are made. The work of the abbey's monastic community also includes chocolate and biscuit production.

The Country House 56 in Campénéac offers guided tours of an almost true-to-original reconstruction of the house from the television series “Little House on the Prairie”.
