Saint-Laurent-Sur-Oust: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Saint-Laurent-sur-Oust, sacred architectural and artistic heritage stands alongside the historical traces of Beaumont. The parish church of Saint-Laurent is a building constructed in the 16th century and extensively altered over time. Its north chapel was formerly the seigneurial chapel of the de Beaumont family. Fragments of old stained-glass windows were reused in the sacristy: they depicted Christ, Saint Lawrence and the coat of arms of the de Malestroit family, and were still visible in 1862. Saint-Laurent Church also houses a polychrome limestone statue of Saint Lawrence.

History

The manor house of Beaumont is the surviving part of an important 15th-century manor that belonged to the de Malestroit family. Beaumont in Saint-Laurent-sur-Oust is also home to a covered well.

Among the surviving megalithic structures in Beaumont is a covered gallery grave. The Neolithic site of Beaumont in Saint-Laurent-sur-Oust is designated as both a historic site and a megalith. It lies on irregular terrain above the Oust Valley and shows successive settlements from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages. A menhir stands about 30 metres west of the site, with engraved figures visible on its upper surface. At the Beaumont site in Saint-Laurent-sur-Oust, the almost complete ground plan of a burial was also documented; it may have contained three people.

Nature

Several rocks perpendicular to the Oust give Saint-Laurent-sur-Oust a pronounced relief. The Forêt du Houssa is located in Beaumont in Saint-Laurent-sur-Oust and covers 80 hectares. Its wide forest avenues are suitable for walking; some of them are also accessible with a stroller. You may occasionally encounter deer in the Forêt du Houssa.
