Île-Aux-Moines: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

A striking testament to the long history of Île-Aux-Moines is the Cromlech de Kergenan in Kergonan: the prehistoric cromlech is classified as a historic monument.

Culture and history

The parish church of Saint-Michel was built between 1824 and 1826, and its tower was raised in 1836. In the 1850s, the Chapelle Notre-Dame de l'Espérance was also built on the initiative of the parish priest at the time and through donations from the island's residents, using modest means.

The architectural heritage of Île-aux-Moines includes crosses, calvaries, stone walls and fountains; the votive offerings in the chapel in the town centre are particularly noteworthy.

In the surrounding area are the Allée couverte de Grah Niol and the Dolmen de Lannek-er-Men, both named landmarks recorded as ancient sites. The Château de Truscat is recorded there as a château and named structure. The Cairn de Gavrinis, a named landmark recorded as a historic site, is also located nearby.

Landscape and nature

At Penhap, coastal areas, heathland, meadows, fallow land and woodland alternate in the protected area of Landes et prairies de l'île aux Moines. 350 plant species have been recorded in the area around Penhap.

Nearby is the Plage de Brouhel, a named landscape feature recorded as a beach. The Plage de Kerver and the plage de la Villeneuve are also located in the surrounding area; each is a named landscape feature recorded as a beach. Île aux Moines, a named geographical landmark recorded as an island, is likewise located nearby.

Water and activities

At the entrance to the island, the Plage de Dréhen, also known as Grande Plage, stretches for 300 metres. Close to the landing stage, it offers a safe place to swim and is lined with beach cabins. Bicycles can be rented at the landing stage to explore Île-aux-Moines.

At Pointe de Pen Hap, visitors can discover the Chantier du Guip, which specialises in building and restoring traditional boats as well as small yachts. The Festival de la voile includes gatherings of sailing boats, regattas and boat processions.
