Guer: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Guer combines military heritage with 10th-century religious buildings and walks through the town centre. It also offers exhibitions, a cultural centre and routes that explore the Pays de Guer over longer distances.

Culture and History

The Musée du Souvenir des écoles de Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan in Guer is a publicly accessible site dedicated to remembrance and military history. Its collection includes paintings, bronzes, weapons, uniforms, emblems and trophies, among other items.

West of Guer, in the Saint-Etienne area, are the Prieuré Saint-Étienne and the Chapelle Saint-Étienne. Both have been classified as historic monuments since 1971. The Chapelle Saint-Étienne is considered the oldest chapel in Morbihan and dates back to the 10th century. Its eastern gable features an exceptional brick decoration from this period, considered unique in Brittany.

The military heritage sites of Coëtquidan also shape the area’s cultural character. In the built-up Camp de Coëtquidan and in the southern part of the training grounds, visitors can see numerous military heritage monuments, steles, busts and statues. Access to the Académie Militaire Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan is regulated; visitors must register at the Bellevue entrance post.

Since 3 June 2025, the town hall of Guer has hosted a permanent exhibition of paintings by local artist Adelyne Neveux. The exhibition can be visited by appointment during the town hall’s opening hours. The Chapelle St-Thomas also hosts the exhibition “L’Art des Mardis de La Gare”, which showcases local artists. The Centre Culturel Le Belvédère offers exhibitions, performances and artist residencies.

Walks and Routes

The Baludik walk “Discovering Guer: History and Heritage” takes you through the centre of Guer. It is just under 1 km long and takes about 1 hour. Two other interactive heritage walks focus on the Chapelle de Prado and the Prieuré Saint-Étienne: the walk to the Chapelle de Prado is 9.3 km long, takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes, and includes 9 stops. The route to the Prieuré Saint-Étienne is approximately 7.7 km long, takes around 2 hours and 15 minutes, and includes 5 stops.

For longer routes, the Voie Verte runs for 12 km through the Pays de Guer and forms a 47 km route between Guipry-Messac and Ploërmel. Geocaching is an outdoor activity in which participants use a GPS device or smartphone to search for containers hidden in nature.

Square Bandon in the centre of Guer offers green spaces, a water point and an open playground for young children.
