Kergrist combines history, nature and local produce.

Culture and history

At the Chapelle Saint-Mérec, the tradition dates back to 1627. The place of worship was rebuilt in 1847 and consolidated in 1891; its inner porch dates from the 15th century. The chapel also has a devotional spring, which probably dates from the 17th century. Two pardons are held here during the year: the Pardon of the Seven Saints is celebrated on the Sunday after Ascension Day, and the Pardon of Saint Gilles on the first Sunday in September.

Another historical highlight is the privately owned Manoir de Berrien. The remains of a crescent-shaped tower there indicate a defensive function in the 15th century.

Landscape and trails

La Buissonnière de Kergrist is a moderately difficult, 22-kilometre route for hiking and mountain biking. It runs along streams through forests and bocage landscapes. The Ruisseau de Kergal is also part of this water-rich landscape: it rises in Kergrist and flows into the Nantes–Brest Canal.

From the church, a 1.5-kilometre nature walk leads visitors on a discovery of the local fauna.

Nature observation

On La balade des lavandières, hikers have access to a nature guide to the local fauna and flora. Educational panels with QR codes provide additional information about the surroundings; they can be used to listen to birdsong. La balade des lavandières is part of a 22-kilometre walking trail. The washhouse there has become a refuge for amphibians.

Local produce

On Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Koin des producteurs offers local produce from more than ten producers, including fresh products, confectionery, meat, flour, oil and cheese.
