Messac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Messac combines architectural heritage with distinctive landscapes and diverse trails. In the Guipry-Messac area, the wooded Corbinières Valley lies within an 800-hectare forest massif. There, the valley forms a 70-metre-deep gorge shaped by a river over millions of years.

Nature and Trails

The Sentier d’interprétation de la vallée boisée de Corbinières offers a 2.5-kilometre walking loop that is open to the public all year round. Along the route, information panels in a question-and-answer format explain the landscapes, wildlife, plant life and history of the valley. In the Guipry-Messac area, there is also a 35-kilometre mountain-bike trail leading from the town centre to the Corbinières massif.

In the Guipry-Messac area, the Voie verte offers 50 kilometres of route reserved exclusively for walkers. Guipry-Messac is the only town along the Voie verte with a railway station that is still in operation. Along the banks of the Vilaine, the towpath runs from north to south and is suitable for walking, cycling and horse riding.

Port and Waterways

The Port de Messac-Guipry marina serves as a starting point for river cruises on the Breton canals. Historically, the port of Messac-Guipry was strongly shaped by trade in salt, Loire stone, metals, wine, timber and textiles.

Architectural Heritage and History

The Château de la Pommerais in Messac dates from the first half of the 17th century. It comprises a chapel, a dovecote, a courtyard and an agricultural building. The Moulin de la Perrais in Messac dates from the 18th century.

The Église de Messac is dedicated to Saint Abdon and Saint Sennen and was built in the 12th century. Its southern porch dates from the 16th century. The stone tower was built in 1866; the connection between the tower and the nave was completed in 1903.

The Maison du Tourisme is located in an authentically preserved 19th-century residential building that the municipality of Messac acquired in 1980. The Temple de la Coëfferie is the oldest building in Messac and is one of the surviving medieval structures of the Knights Templar.
