Lanhélin is characterised by granite: The underlying rock consists mainly of granite, and the town’s blue granite can be seen in sculptures, houses, the church and the crosses. The Jardin de Granit is home to 16 monumental sculptures by Breton, French and international artists.

Culture

The idea for the Jardin de Granit emerged from two sculptors’ symposia held in 1993 and 1994. Admission is free, and the site is freely accessible all year round.

Near Ville Pion, the Ensemble cultuel de Notre-Dame du Rosaire comprises a place of prayer dedicated to Notre-Dame de Fatima. The complex also includes several granite monuments erected by the inhabitants of Lanhélin as votive offerings after the Second World War.

History

The Église Saint-André was restored in 1771 and partially rebuilt in the 20th century. Its bell tower dates from 1778, while the spire dates from 1840; the choir and transept date back to the 18th century. The church houses a Black Madonna from the 17th century. Numerous tomb slabs from the Hospitaller period can be dated to the 16th and 17th centuries.

Historical evidence can also be found outside the church: The wayside cross “Croix de chemin des Coudrets” dates from 1735. The hamlet of Chènedé preserves significant residences from the 17th century as well as several farmsteads built in the 19th century.

Nature

The municipality offers seven circular routes that can be explored on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike. They pass through the granite massif of Lanhélin and Saint-Pierre-de-Plesguen.

The Circuit du Granit Bleu starts at the Jardin de Granit and invites visitors to discover Lanhélin’s blue-granite landscape. The route can be travelled on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback.
