Culture

The parish church of Saint-Pierre has been documented since the 12th century. The church of Piré-sur-Seiche features Gothic decorations, including a quatrefoil rose window above the main portal, as well as gargoyles, sirens, angels, and other creatures from the medieval bestiary on the north and south sides of the aisles. The chapel, originally built of sandstone, was dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-Pitié. A remarkable granite calvary bears a carved Christ.

Châteaugiron Castle is a historical site in the vicinity of Piré-sur-Seiche. In the wider region surrounding Piré-sur-Seiche are four named sites: Château du Plessis (Argentré-du-Plessis), a château; the Musée des Beaux-Arts, a museum; Embas Gate, a historical site; and Jardin du Parc, a garden.

History

Château de la Beauvais dates from the 17th to the 19th century and has a dovecote. Château de l’Espinay, also known as Epinay, dates from the 17th century. Manoir de la Bréhonnière dates from the 15th to the 18th century. This manor house once had a sundial dating from 1710.

Nature and Trails

There are three hiking trails in the area of Piré-sur-Seiche. Parc du Château des Pères covers 31 hectares of meadows and forests. It features a 2 km-long walking trail with a permanent exhibition of monumental sculptures.
