Nature

The Voie verte runs along a former railway line between Châteaubriant and Ploërmel, which was used from 1896 to 1986. It offers a safe route for walking and cycling, with insights into the local flora and fauna, landscape and cultural heritage.

The Tour du lac de Bain-de-Bretagne circular route is an easy 5.3-kilometre loop for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders; the starting point is the car park at the swimming pool. Benches, picnic tables, children's play equipment and sanitary facilities are available to visitors along the shores of the Étang de Bain-de-Bretagne. The shores received the “EcoJardin” label in 2013 for ecological and sustainable management of the site.

The Bain-de-Bretagne market takes place in the town centre on Place de la République. Bain-de-Bretagne also offers various places for walks and discoveries, where visitors can learn about the town's cultural heritage from different periods.

Culture

Le Scénario is an association cinema in Bain-de-Bretagne run exclusively by volunteers. It has been located at 3 rue du Chêne vert since December 2008 and has two air-conditioned auditoriums with 213 and 72 seats respectively.

The historic site of Grand-Fougeray Tower is located in the vicinity of Bain-de-Bretagne. In the wider regional area around Bain-de-Bretagne are the Musée des Beaux-Arts museum, the Château de la Ville Quéno castle and the Eglise Saint-Martin church.

History

The present-day parish church of Saint-Martin in Bain-de-Bretagne was built in 1851 southwest of the town centre according to plans by departmental architect Léoce Couetoux. In 1876, Arthur Regnault designed a project for partial reconstruction; it is uncertain whether it was carried out in 1892. The furnishings include stained-glass windows from the second half of the 19th century, created by the Rault workshops and the Atelier du Carmel du Mans.

The parish church of Saint-Martin has a Latin-cross floor plan and a basket-handle vaulted ceiling. The main façade lies between two towers with campaniles and pointed roofs; the polygonal apse is designed in the Romanesque Revival style. The furnishings include stained-glass windows.
