Le Boël in the municipality of Bruz overlooks the Vilaine and combines dry heathland, slate ridges and woodland on steep rocky cliffs.

Nature

At the centre of Bruz lies the 19-hectare Parc de l’An 2000. Its paths run along the Seiche; at the same time, the nature park is classified as an LPO bird protection refuge. Two discovery trails focus on the fauna and flora as well as legends and poems.

Activities

The cycle routes for exploring Bruz start at the car park of the Parc de l’An 2000 on the road to Laillé; they are easy and suitable for children. Vélo Promenade No. 13 leads through Bruz and its surroundings, which are characterised by the Vilaine, the Seiche and the ponds lining them.

The climbing area at Le Boël is a freely accessible outdoor sports facility for experienced climbers and comprises three sectors with 65 routes graded from 5B to 8B. A one-kilometre circular walking trail also starts at the car park at Le Boël.

The Pont-Réan bridge over the Vilaine is used by walkers, cyclists and canoeists. It consists of nine slate arches; the fifth arch marks the boundary between Bruz and Guichen. It was built in Gallo-Roman times before being rebuilt between 1753 and 1767.

Culture and History

The Jacques Martin trail is a 2.8-kilometre walking route where visitors can discover historical traces of Bruz and gain a better understanding of the town’s history. Twenty illustrated panels stand along the trail; QR codes provide additional content on the history of Bruz from the Middle Ages to its reconstruction in the 1950s.

The present-day Saint-Martin-de-Tours church was built in 1950 by the architect Chouinard, replacing a building damaged during the war. Violet slate quarried near Bruz was used for its reconstruction.

The Moulin du Boël was built in 1652 and restored from 1965 to 1972. For more than a thousand years, the Moulin de Champcors has used the power of the Vilaine to grind grain.

In the Parc de la Herverie, a memorial site commemorates the heavy bombardments on the night of 7–8 May 1944. Le Grand Logis is the cultural centre run by the town of Bruz, with a media library and an event hall, and presents around thirty events to the public each year.

Bruz has two railway stations: Bruz station in the town centre and Ker Lann Bruz station.
