Montreuil-Le-Gast: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In the centre of Montreuil-le-Gast, the parish church of Saint-Sulpice is located on Rue Centrale. It was built in 1845 according to plans by the architect Léonce Couëtoux. Several historic details have been preserved in and around the church, making different periods and forms of ecclesiastical remembrance visible.

Culture and history

A gravestone dating from 1628 serves as a lintel above the entrance to the southern transept of Saint-Sulpice Church in Montreuil-le-Gast. The processional cross of Montreuil-le-Gast was made in 1586. The processional cross of Saint-Sulpice has been classified as a historic monument since 1901. On its front, it depicts Christ crucified; on the back, Saint Sulpicius, the patron saint of the parish.

The mission cross is also one of the town’s prominent religious monuments. It was erected during a mission in the first quarter of the 20th century. The cross is made of granite and bears a painted cast-iron statue of Christ. Its pedestal bears the dates of the 1911 and 1962 missions.

Traditions

During the Rosière celebration, the young woman selected by the municipal council wears a crown of roses. Since 1998, she has also been invited to plant a rose in the garden created by the municipality.

Hiking

Montreuil-le-Gast has four short hiking trails in the Val d’Ille-Aubigné PR network. The Sentier de la Chaussonnière is listed as being 13.16 kilometres long, with a stated duration of 3 hours and 17 minutes.

Landscape

A remarkable ash tree from the vicinity of the 15th- and 16th-century manor house of La Foultière is still preserved today.
