Miniac-Morvan: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Miniac-Morvan showcases its history through distinctive buildings. The present-day parish church of Saint-Pierre was built from 1846 onwards under the direction of Alfred-Louis Frangeul. Its western structure is neoclassical, while the nave and choir are Gothic Revival in style. Its furnishings include the wooden altarpiece of the high altar, dating from the 17th century, which is classified as a historic monument.

Culture and history

The Château du Bas-Miniac dates from 1749 to 1758 and stands on the site of a fortified residence from the 12th or 13th century. Among the surviving features are remnants of the towers that once flanked the drawbridge. The chapel of the Château du Bas-Miniac was rebuilt in 1654 with a rectangular floor plan and a three-sided apse. The Bas-Miniac dovecote was built around 1650 during the construction of the chapel; it contains 1,000 nesting holes.

The Manoir de la Mare-Ferron also points to an older history: it stands on the site of a priory of the same name, which was dependent on the Abbey of Saint-Florent in Anjou in the 13th century. The former manor house dates from the 15th century and has preserved a large part of its original layout. An exceptionally high-quality original 15th-century roof structure has been preserved in the western part.

Nature and landscape

The Mare de Saint-Coulban is located at the northern end of Miniac-Morvan. The Étang du Bas-Miniac once powered a water mill. In the surroundings of Miniac-Morvan, the Marais noir de Saint-Coulban offers a public events programme with one event each month focusing on seasonal topics. Natural history excursions in the area include observing migratory birds and breeding birds there.

Routes and regional context

The RN 137 between Rennes and Saint-Malo passes through Miniac-Morvan. The Circuit des Hauts de Miniac starts in Miniac-Morvan, is 13.3 km long and passes through the Mesnil state forest, the village of Vieux-bourg and the former Rennes–Saint-Malo tramway line. The Circuit des Hauts de Miniac can be used on foot and by mountain bike.

Local life

At the Marché de Miniac-Morvan, local produce from short supply chains and direct sales is offered, including vegetables, cheese and fish.
