La Chapelle-Chaussée: Holiday Apartments and Houses
The Église Saint-Pierre in La Chapelle-Chaussée combines a 15th-century nave with a choir dating partly from the 18th century. Inside, it preserves a Flamboyant Gothic window; at the main portal, pointed archivolts rest on columns with foliage capitals. In 1769, two chapels of different sizes were added, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Stephen.
Culture and History
The Château de La Chapelle-Chaussée was rebuilt in the last quarter of the 16th century. The south façade was created in 1834 during a reconstruction by Louis Richelot. The Manoir le Champ Mauny also dates from the second half of the 16th century. Its residential building is made entirely of granite rubble and dressed granite, has an angular floor plan, and features an external stair tower without openings for light at the rear façade's corner. The southern section also preserves a projecting moulded windowsill, a carved ogee-shaped finial on the door lintel, iron window grilles, and a carved chimney top.
Geographical Setting
Rue de Montmuran, now the D27, forms the central axis of La Chapelle-Chaussée and follows the former road from Rennes to Corseul. The château east of the town centre helped keep the landscape open at the entrance to the town.
