Culture and History

A Benedictine priory in Saint-Gilles is documented as early as 1152. The Saint-Gilles parish church was rebuilt in the second half of the 15th century; the choir and transept of the Saint-Gilles church were rebuilt in 1837. The chapel of the Manoir de Cacé was restored in 1771.

The Manoir de Cacé in Saint-Gilles bears numerous similarities to the Manoir de La Porte, a former manor house dating from the 15th century. Pierre Blanche is one of the most significant megalithic sites in Saint-Gilles. The menhirs of Pierre Blanche helped identify an ancient road west of the municipality of Saint-Gilles, which ran from Bouculan in the north of Saint-Gilles to Guicharderie in the south. The municipal cultural season of Saint-Gilles takes place at the Sabot d'Or.

Nature and Trails

The Saint-Gilles eco-valley covers 22 hectares. It connects the Étang du Guichalet with the Côtardière stream, passing, among other places, through the Bois du Grand Domaine and the Pâtis Guineheux. A 1.2 km-long hiking trail runs around the municipal pond of Saint-Gilles.
