Bruc-Sur-Aff: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The history of Bruc-sur-Aff includes the Saint-Michel Church: it has been a priory and parish church since the 11th century and was under the authority of Paimpont Abbey.

Culture and Architecture

Saint-Michel has a traditional Latin-cross layout and a single-nave structure. The choir and transept are Neo-Gothic, and a side porch precedes a reused carved door. The complex also includes a detached ossuary dating from the mid-19th century.

The 16th-century Boulaye manor house also preserves distinctive architectural details: its main building has a square stair tower on the western side. The complex includes a chapel probably dating from the 17th century, which was used as a washhouse at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as a Neo-Gothic residential building added to the south around 1885. It was built on the site of an older structure.

Near La Lacune stands the Croix Orial, a rare comparable example of the monolithic crosses made from slate slabs that are common in this part of the département.

Sacred Tradition

The Saint-Michel parish processional banner was commissioned by the parish priest of Bruc-sur-Aff and made by the company BAZIN & COUILLARD at 19 Rue d'Antrain in Rennes.

The Assumption procession from Saint-Michel to the Grotte de Fréval – Notre Dame du Busson still takes place on 15 August. During the procession, the parish banner is carried to the grotto, located 2.5 km from the church and built from blocks of white puddingstone.

Historical Traces

The main construction phase of the disused Bois Hulin windmill is uncertainly dated to the 16th century. The mill still has its sails and is of the “moulin à petit pied” type; its ground floor is narrower than the upper floor.

Landscape

The small departmental road D352 between Bruc-sur-Aff and Croix-Belle-à-Pied, northeast of Bruc-sur-Aff, follows a ridge line at an altitude of 75 to 83 metres and offers numerous views of the surrounding hilly landscapes.

In the immediate vicinity of Bruc-sur-Aff are the Château de la Ville Quéno, the Eglise Saint-Michel Church, the Chapelle du Creux-Chemin, a church, and the Eglise Saint-François-de-Sales Church.
