Montgermont: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
In Montgermont, Les Prairies d’Olivet are designated as an Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS), a sensitive natural area. Since 2011, Les Prairies d’Olivet have also been an LPO protected area; surveys have identified around 50 bird species and more than 100 breeding pairs there. The area forms a mosaic of wetland habitats with several streams, ponds, floodable woodlands, meadows, hedgerows and willow thickets.
Paths through the surrounding area
Montgermont has 15 kilometres of footpaths. There is a roughly two-hour hike for exploring the rural surroundings. There is also a nature walk relating to LPO protected areas and a cultural and historical walk to sites classified as historic heritage.
History and architectural heritage
The motte at Montgermont is 5 metres high, originally had a diameter of 30 metres, and is an example of the early medieval earthworks built by noble families. Parts of it can still be seen today to the west and south of the motte.
The Church of Saint-Martin-de-Tours has been documented since 1152, became a parish church in the early 13th century and was probably rebuilt in the early 15th century on the foundations of the original building. It features a construction typical of old rural churches in Haute-Bretagne, with rubble stone, a slate-covered roof and a silhouette shaped by successive extensions.
The Manoir de Galisson has been documented since the 15th century. The Manoir de la Boussardière has been preserved and restored.
