Muel: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Muel combines hiking trails, historic sites, and a cultural offering featuring visual arts and local traditions. Between the church square, the Landes de Trékouët, and the ancient sites in the surrounding area, a diverse picture of the town emerges.
Culture and History
The present-day Notre-Dame de l'Assomption church in Muel dates from 1858 and was restored in 1948. Historic landmarks can also be found outside the town center: the Chapelle Saint-Jouan stands in a clearing within an old enclosure. It was founded by the Knights Hospitaller in the 12th century; an illustrated information panel explains its legend.
L'Antre de l'éléphant is a cultural venue for art exhibitions and creative workshops in a renovated former parish theater. Visual arts workshops are offered for children, teenagers, families, and adults, including activities with cardboard, collage, paint, and free-form creative ideas.
The ancient sites of Tombeau de Merlin, La fontaine de Jouvence, Le Chêne de Guillotin, and La Fontaine de Barenton are located around Muel. Local tradition also includes the bowling game “Les quilles de Muël,” which is played at the annual community festival in Muel. The balls used are distinctive for their oval, rather hammerhead-like shape.
Hiking and Landscape
The Circuit de la Cornillière is Muel's red-marked, 9 km-long hiking route. More challenging is Circuit de Trékouët No. 163: this difficult 23 km-long hiking route starts at Muel's church square and takes around six hours. The Circuit du Pont Guillé also starts at Muel's church square and takes 2 hours and 15 minutes.
In the Landes de Trékouët, the landscape is characterized by more pronounced relief and rocky elements; along the route, you approach Comper.
