Saint-Brice-en-Coglès combines cultural history, nature trails and unusual experiences. A striking example is Rocher Portail: the private monument was built in the 17th century and is an immersive theme park dedicated to magic. The programme includes magic lessons, learning spells, making a magic wand and broomstick flying lessons.

Culture and history

The present-day Saint-Brice church is the third place of worship to have been built on this site. Saint-Brice-en-Coglès also bears the “Village en Poésie” label: around ten panels featuring poems can be discovered in the town centre and green spaces.

The “Balade Urbaine” routes explore the heritage of the town centres of Saint-Brice-en-Coglès and Saint-Etienne-en-Coglès. A short detour along the pond on the “Marche des Châteaux” offers a view of the courtyard of honour and the main building of Château de la Motte. Château de la Motte was classified as a Monument Historique in 1975.

Nature

Bois de la Motte is a 22-hectare Espace Naturel Sensible managed by the département, with forest paths. The laid-out paths allow for an easy walk during much of the year. Bois de la Motte is open to the public for discovering the flora and fauna of this type of forest habitat.

The arboretum at Espace Loysance features initial plantings, picnic tables and panels with poems.

Trails and cycling

The former railway line, now used as the Voie verte VD3, runs through the south of Saint-Brice-en-Coglès. The town is also the starting point of the 32-kilometre Boucle des Picaous cycling promenade.

The Fougères–Mont-Saint-Michel cycle route via La Régalante is a section of the new “La Régalante” cycle route and partly follows a gravel-surfaced Voie verte built along a former railway line. The Château d’eau service area on Rue de la Gare has picnic tables, charging stations for e-bikes, an air pump and repair station, as well as two Vél’boxes with power connections.

The “Marche des Châteaux” is a walking loop connected with Saint-Brice-en-Coglès.
