Bonnemain is characterised by historic buildings, monumental crosses and paths alongside ponds. Between ecclesiastical architecture, regional history and experiences in nature, the town offers a variety of facets.

Architecture and history

The Moulin à eau de La Chaise watermill dates from the 16th century and is one of the oldest watermills still visible in the Ille-et-Vilaine département. It retains its granite-built weir; nearby there is a small structure considered to be a fishing facility, while the waterwheel has been removed.

The present-day parish church of Saint-Martin, Saint-Samson in Bonnemain was rebuilt from 1883 onwards. It is a Neo-Gothic building with a Latin-cross floor plan and rib vaults. The portal of the former enclosure of the 14th-century church of Bonnemain was rebuilt at the entrance to the present-day cemetery.

Bonnemain has a significant collection of monumental crosses. The Croix de La Ville Blanche is a granite wayside cross with a recessed niche containing a figure. The Croix de La Haute Barbotaie is dated 1541 and is the oldest cross in Bonnemain.

Water and paths

The Circuit des Étangs is a 9 km hiking route taking approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. The route leads into the Domaine des Ormes, a tourist complex with a golf course, campsite, tree houses, hotel and equestrian centre.

The Étang de La Sablonnière is a 4.3-hectare pond. For eight months of the year, from the beginning of October to the end of May, it is dedicated to fly fishing; in summer, all forms of fishing are permitted. The pond provides a habitat for dragonflies, great crested grebes, mallards and coots.
