Le Rheu: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Le Rheu combines nature, culture and leisure activities with specific places to visit. In the Bois de la Motte, there is a 2-kilometre discovery trail where visitors can learn about and identify tree species and fauna.

Nature and Biodiversity

The Bois de la Motte is recognised as an Espace naturel sensible (ENS) and contributes to the protection of biodiversity. It is home to specimens of the lesser horseshoe bat, which is considered rare and endangered in Brittany.

The Étang de Freslonnière is a 10.04-hectare area in Le Rheu of great ecological importance. It features a wide variety of flora, habitats and fauna; its ecological importance is based on the diversity of its aquatic habitats.

Trails and Leisure

Le Rheu is served by the STAR network of Rennes Métropole on routes 54, 154ex, 56 and 76. The bus journey from Le Rheu town centre to Rennes takes approximately 25 to 30 minutes.

The mountain-biking and leisure area in the Les Cormiers business park in Le Rheu has trails and picnic areas. The Réseau Express Vélo also provides a cycle connection from Rennes to Le Rheu.

The “Entre Vilaine et Meu” loop is 29 kilometres long and returns via the towpath at Chavagne and the Étangs d’Apigné.

Culture and History

The first documents attesting to the existence of Le Rheu date from the 13th century. The rural heritage includes earthen farm complexes dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, built using the construction technique characteristic of the Rennes Basin: rammed earth, known as bauge.

The Church of Saint-Melaine in Moigné has Romanesque origins and preserves a 16th-century stained-glass window classified as a Monument historique. The Church of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul in Le Rheu has a choir dating from 1424.

The L’Autre Lieu media library provides spaces for events and a cultural programme. The Georges-Brassens Hall regularly hosts performances as part of the cultural season organised by the AGORA association. All year round, the association offers a diverse artistic programme featuring theatre, concerts and exhibitions.

Les Terres Solaires is a ceramics studio that organises exhibitions and sells works by local craftspeople. Workshops and training in weaving, glass, clay, polymer clay and textiles are to be offered there by craft professionals.

Local Life and Events

Le Rheu Maraîchers runs a farm shop in Le Rheu selling produce from its own farm as well as local food, dairy products, drinks, and meat and charcuterie products. Strawberries can be picked by visitors themselves at the farm in Le Rheu.

Le Son d’Gaston is a contemporary music festival held annually in Le Rheu; it has been held there every year since 2022.
