Nature at Étang de la Forge

The Étang de la Forge departmental nature area belongs to Martigné-Ferchaud and Eancé. From the town centre, Étang de la Forge can be reached via the D53, heading east towards Eancé.

Culture and History

The present-day Church of Saint Martin in Eancé was built between 1880 and 1885 according to plans by the architect Arthur Regnault. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross; its features and design include a ribbed vault, a façade tower and a neo-Gothic style. As early as the beginning of the 12th century, the church was transferred to Marmoutier Abbey.

During excavations in 1986, an earthwork fortification built on a promontory was uncovered at La Guérivais in Eancé. It probably dates from the end of the Gallic period, around the 1st century BC. The Moulin du Gravier also appears in the income records of the Seigneurie d’Eancé, dated 10 June 1749.

The historic site of Camp de Choisel lies in the vicinity of Eancé. In the wider regional area, Château du Plessis is located in Argentré-du-Plessis.

Route between Araize and Semnon

The “Eancé – Entre Araize et Semnon” route runs between the Semnon and Araize rivers, following the waterways. The car park at Salle Pierre et Marie Curie in Eancé serves as the starting point for this route.
