Le Ponthou: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Le Ponthou combines a designated circular hiking trail with the Douron river valley, a Roman bridge, and notable evidence of ecclesiastical history. The area also includes natural features in the municipality of Plouigneau, as well as several sites in the surrounding area listed as castles.

Hiking and Nature

From the centre of Le Ponthou, the circular hiking trail “Vers le Pont de Kéribot” follows the GR de Pays de Morlaix in the direction of Plouigneau. The Roman Pont de Keribot bridge spans the Douron. The Douron valley associated with the “Vers le Pont de Kéribot” route is designated as a Natura 2000 site.

The river itself is also part of the character of the area: wild salmon and brown trout migrate upstream in the Douron. The Plan d'eau du Ponthou is one of the biodiversity reservoirs named within the municipality of Plouigneau.

History and Church

Le Ponthou was a former secular priory of the Diocese of Tréguier and was elevated to a parish as part of the Concordat. The tower of the former priory of Le Ponthou dates from the 13th century. The Saint-Barthélemy spring in Le Ponthou also dates from the 13th century.

The Church of Saint-Barthélemy in Le Ponthou was built in 1845. The church contains the banner “Saint Barthélémy, Sainte Marie”; it also houses 17th-century statues of Saint Bartholomew and the Virgin Mary.
