Landeleau: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Landeleau showcases its history through chapels, cultural artefacts, a fortified camp and the waterways of the Nantes–Brest Canal.

Culture and History

The Saint-Laurent Chapel in Pénity-Saint-Laurent dates from the 16th or 17th century and was extensively restored in 1942. In Lanzignac, the 1538 calvary recalls the former Trinity Chapel; it is the only surviving relic of this chapel. A pardon has been held at its former site every year since 1985 during the Feast of the Holy Trinity.

Near the west portal of Landeleau parish church is an old granite sarcophagus called “Gwele sant Telo”. Saint-Théleau Church also contains a ciborium dated 1652, which was classified as a historic object on 8 December 1965.

Archaeological Traces

The fortified camp of Penfoul was located on a natural elevation that was 1 m high and had a diameter of 15 m. From its summit, the landscape from the Monts d’Arrée to the Montagnes Noires could be surveyed. Based on the charcoal found there, the camp is dated to the period between 800 and 400 BC, that is, from the Late Bronze Age to the Second Iron Age.

Paths and Waterways

The Kastell Gall hiking trail in the municipality of Landeleau is 14.5 km long. At the Stang site along this Kastell Gall hiking route, there is a green beach, a campsite, a bathing area and a picnic shelter.

The Pont Triffin site is in the immediate vicinity of Landeleau, 2.5 km away, and extends across Landeleau, Spézet (3.9 km) and Cléden-Poher (4 km). It is located on the towpath of the Nantes–Brest Canal, near the V6 greenway and the Way of St James. Landeleau is also home to the Penity Lock No. 210 on the Nantes–Brest Canal.

Getting There

The nearest railway access is Carhaix station, 15 km away. TER services operate from there, with connections to TGV trains in Guingamp.
