Confort-Meilars: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Confort-Meilars combines sacred history, paths along the Goyen and insights into the world of bats. Buildings, water features, traditional crafts and landscapes reveal the different facets of the area.
History
The Church of Notre-Dame de Confort was built between 1528 and 1544 by Alain de Rosmadec and Jeanne du Chastel. Inside the church, the wooden bell wheel Rod ar Fortun produces a distinctive sound when turned.
The Calvaire aux treize Apôtres has a triangular base dating from the second half of the 16th century and twelve niches that formerly held statues of the twelve Apostles.
The oldest parts of the Church of Saint-Mélar date back to the 13th century. A Gallic stele stands at the site of this church and has now been converted into a war memorial. It indicates that an older place of worship probably already existed there.
Places
Places worth visiting in Confort-Meilars include the fountains and washhouses. The Fontaine de Meilars is probably a devotional fountain, while the Meilars washhouse is thought to date from the 1920s.
La Forge has a forge workshop run by volunteers, where historical tools have been restored to working order.
Nature
More than one hundred extremely rare greater horseshoe bats live in the attic of the former forge. In the attic of La Forge, an infrared camera makes it possible to observe a colony of 200 bats.
The summer event “La nuit de la chauve-souris” was offered at La Forge from 2009 onwards, enabling visitors to discover the bat colony living in the attic there.
Paths
The “Vallée du Goyen” circular trail follows the Goyen and offers views of the Goyen Valley. The “Circuit de Confort-Meilars par la Chapelle de Kérinec” circular trail follows a path with views over the Goyen Valley; it starts and ends at the car park of the fairground near the church in Confort-Meilars.
