Locmaria-Plouzané: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Locmaria-Plouzané combines a distinctive Atlantic coastline with an unusually rich succession of nature experiences, water sports and cultural attractions. The long-distance hiking trail GR 34 runs along the six-kilometre coastline, making the coastal landscape a defining feature of the town along its entire length.

Coastline and Landscape

The coast of Locmaria-Plouzané consists mainly of cliffs around 50 metres high, as well as three beaches and coves. Eleven hectares of coastal heathland have been acquired by the Conservatoire du Littoral. This protects the flora and fauna and enables birds to breed in spring. A distinctive geological and historical trace can be found on Porsmilin Beach: at low tide, the tides reveal tree stumps and trunks that form a more than 4,500-year-old peat bog.

Activities

At Trégana Beach, visitors can launch kayaks, paddleboards and bodyboards; when the waves are good, water sports are possible there. Geologically, Déolen Bay is a calanque and is considered a surfing spot between the cliffs. Bodyboarding lessons and paddle excursions are offered from Porsmilin Beach.

There are also several established routes on land: Locmaria-Plouzané has several circular hiking trails, as well as mountain-bike circuits and cycle paths.

Culture and History

The cultural heritage of Locmaria-Plouzané includes the Notre Dame de Lanvénec church. A church in the town also houses polychrome wooden statues from the 17th century. In the Chapelle de Lesconvel, new stained-glass windows illuminate, protect and enhance the interior.

The Manoir de Kerscao welcomes visitors from 30 June to 30 September. The Mardis de Portez concert series also takes place in summer: the open-air concerts bring together local musicians and invited guests.

In Déolen, a former building recalls the history of communications: it was France’s first centre for transatlantic telegraph communication and connected Europe and America via underwater cables from 1879 to 1962. The Batterie de Gauche in Toulbroc'h at Pointe du Grand Minou served to defend the entrance to the Goulet de Brest.
