Port-Launay: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Port-Launay, the canal, the towpath and the uniformity of the built environment shape an exceptional landscape: it is both peaceful and animated by the succession of hills characterised by agriculture and forestry.

Culture

The Chapelle Saint-Aubin in the hamlet of Lanvaïdic is a chapel built around 1664 with a cruciform layout. It preserves fragments of floral wall paintings from the 17th century, as well as furnishings from the 17th century. The Chapelle Saint-Aubin, its calvary and its enclosure have been listed as historic monuments since 16 November 2011.

The Viaduc de l'Aulne near Guily Glas in Port-Launay has twelve semicircular arches.

History

The Church of Saint Nicholas on Place Charles-de-Gaulle is part of a listed ensemble, which was registered by decree of 5 July 2024. The Port-Launay nativity scene is displayed every year at the end of the year in the church of Port-Launay; its figures have been classified as historic monuments since 2000.

Work on Guily-Glas began in 1847 and was completed in 1858; that year, the site was inaugurated by Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie.

Water

Today, although most of it is used for residential purposes, the port area of Port-Launay is geared towards river and cultural tourism. The Maison de la plaisance at 21 Quai des Amiraux Douguet offers showers, toilets and a laundry room. The Finistère section of the Nantes–Brest Canal can be navigated from Port-Launay towards Carhaix in your own boat.
