Hiking

The Vallée des Moulins circular trail is an easy 6 km hike with a duration of 2 hours. The Maison du Gouverneur, built in 1562, is located along this circular trail. The Pointe de Runglaz circular trail is a moderately difficult route covering 14.5 km with a duration of 4 hours. Both trails begin at Place Robert Le Meur, to the left of the Ty-Pont hotel. The Saint-Jean-du-Doigt church treasury contains around twenty exceptional goldsmith's works, including religious and pilgrimage objects. The parish enclosure and the church treasury room can be visited free of charge all year round. The Maison des Peintres was set up as a studio for artists staying at the hotel and offers an impressive panorama on the first floor. The parish enclosure is not merely a collection of individual buildings standing side by side: the church, ossuary, triumphal arch, calvary, oratory, fountain and cemetery all belong to the same named complex. The church treasury adds religious and pilgrimage objects to this complex. With its studio and panorama, the Maison des Peintres provides another cultural highlight.

History

According to tradition, Duke Jean V laid the foundation stone for the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste on 1 August 1440. The Chapelle Saint-Mélar was built in open country from 1601 to 1621.

Festivals

A Pardon is organised every August at the Chapelle Saint-Mélar. The Pardon de Saint-Jean-du-Doigt takes place every year on the last Sunday in June. During the Pardon, the procession makes its way to the calvary and the fountain of Pen Ar Chra, where the Tantad, or Midsummer fire, is lit. The Fête du Violon is a popular biennial festival for experienced and amateur violinists. The dates are therefore spread across two seasons: August at the Chapelle Saint-Mélar and the last Sunday in June for the Pardon de Saint-Jean-du-Doigt. The procession and the fire describe the course of this festival, while the Fête du Violon forms a separate biennial music event.
