Le Folgoet: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Le Folgoët, the Basilica of Notre-Dame du Folgoët was granted the title of basilica minor in 1427; this makes it the oldest basilica in Brittany.

Culture and history

The basilica’s Flamboyant Gothic rood screen is a significant work made entirely of Kersantite and is the only one of its kind in Brittany. Since its classification in 1840, the basilica has been protected as a historic monument.

Today’s Chapelle de Guicquelleau was built around 1620 and is named after Saint Velle. The chapel contains a Louis XV high altar as well as statues of Saint Marguerite and Saint Velle. On the esplanade near the church of Le Folgoët, the Chapelle des Pardons, a Neo-Gothic chapel, was built in 1922–1923.

The September pardon at the basilica attracts several thousand people. In summer, guided tours in Le Folgoët are organised by SPREV; tours are available year-round if reserved at least two days in advance with the association “Les Amis du Folgoët”. The museum of the Basilica of Le Folgoët closed in 2019; a temporary exhibition dedicated to it by the Musée du Léon can still be visited virtually in augmented reality.

Things to do

The circular route in Le Folgoët included in the PDIPR is 13 kilometres long. It runs in a loop through the local districts and allows visitors to discover the distinctive features of all the hamlets in the municipality.

“Terre d’Hortensias” is a project intended to present the region as a botanical showcase featuring an infinite variety of hydrangeas. At the Chapelle de Guicquelleau in Le Folgoët, the colours of the hydrangeas are on display.
