Île de Sein is an island approximately two kilometres long and no more than 500 metres wide, with no cars, which can be explored on foot. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Ile-De-Sein can then continue their accommodation search.
Geography and Nature
Île de Sein lies in the extension of the Pointe du Raz and, together with Ouessant and the Molène Archipelago, belongs to the Iroise Sea Biosphere Reserve. When approaching by sea, the route passes close to the Pointe du Raz, the Phare de La Vieille and the Raz de Sein. In clear weather, Ar Men can be seen approximately 10 kilometres west of Île de Sein.
The island’s low heathland is treeless and can sometimes be flooded by spring tides. Visitors are asked not to take or pile up pebbles and not to disturb ground-nesting coastal birds.
Getting There and Orientation
The boat crossing from Audierne to Île de Sein is offered in all seasons and takes approximately one hour. Penn Ar Bed and Finist’mer offer the crossing from Audierne; in bad weather, it may depart from Douarnenez and take two hours.

Culture and Paths
The path towards the Phare de Goulenez passes a chapel and Goémon kilns. A trail towards the Phare de Goulenez leads into the heart of the island and passes local cultural heritage sites and natural areas. The Chapelle Saint-Corentin stands near the Grand Phare and reflects the island’s maritime traditions.
Some lanes on Île de Sein are no more than 85 centimetres wide.
History
The Phare de l’île de Sein is listed as a historic monument and was built in 1950 to replace the first lighthouse from 1839. It combines maritime signalling with the desalination of seawater and power generation for the island.
Local Life
Over a coffee, visitors can visit the workshops of ceramic artist Christelle Le Dortz and painter Didier Marie Le Bihan. Ragoût de homard is described as a speciality of Île de Sein.
