The Bodonou nature area lies in a wetland between Guilers, Saint-Renan and Plouzané. It covers 127 hectares and is located on the edge of a former quarry site that was used industrially there for around 40 years. Eight kilometres of paths run through the area and are open all year round.

Nature

The Bodonou landscape includes the Chapelle de Bodonou. It was probably built at the beginning of the 16th century and houses a polychrome statue of the Virgin and Child made of Kersanton stone, which is listed in the inventory of historic monuments.

Culture and History

The Manoir de Kéroual is a 16th-century building in the Bois de Keroual in Guilers. Today, it serves an artistic purpose and has hosted the Astropolis electronic music festival since 2002. The Fort de Penfeld is also steeped in history: it was built between 1776 and 1783 to defend Brest against an English attack from the west. The acquisition and enhancement of Fort de Penfeld by the municipality of Guilers made it possible to preserve a significant part of Brest’s heritage.

The Église Saint-Valentin preserves several periods in a single building. Its oldest parts date from the 15th century; at the same time, it combines a Renaissance south portal, a Neo-Gothic nave, as well as Neoclassical windows and a Neoclassical choir. At the entrance to the small parish district, there is also a 16th-century Pietà made of Kersanton stone.

One of Guilers’ notable monuments is Croas Téo. The octagonal protohistoric stele was Christianised and crowned with a cross; it is the oldest monument in Guilers.
