Plomodiern: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Plomodiern combines coastal landscapes, distinctive hills, hiking trails and Breton ecclesiastical history in an unusually varied local setting.

Landscape and Coast

The Marais de Kervigen lies at the mouth of the River Kerharo, in the border area between Plomodiern and Ploéven. This 22-hectare coastal wetland is predominantly characterised by reed beds of common reed. Along the coast, Lestrevet Beach stretches as a fine-sand beach lined with dunes to the neighbouring municipality of Saint-Nic.

Menez-Hom is a protected natural area covered with heath and heather, reaching an altitude of 330 metres. From there, it offers a panorama of Douarnenez Bay, Brest Bay, the Crozon Peninsula and the Monts d’Arrée.

Water and Trails

Swimming, walks and water sports are possible at Lestrevet Beach. The Club nautique de Plomodiern is based at Lestrevet Beach. The long-distance GR 34 hiking trail, also known as the Customs Officers’ Path, also passes through Plomodiern.

Menez-Hom is the starting point for numerous hiking trails and a popular spot for paragliders. The Menez Yann loop is 9.5 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 230 metres and is suitable for beginners.

Culture and History

The Chapelle Saint-Sébastien was built in 1573; its west façade was remodelled in 1629 and its bell tower in 1773. The calvary of the Chapelle Sainte-Marie-du-Menez-Hom dates from 1544.

The Église St-Mahouarn in Plomodiern houses an authentic reliquary of Saint Corentin. The Chapelle Saint-Corentin was rebuilt from 1898 to 1900 according to plans by Canon Abgrall; its Pardon is celebrated on the third Sunday in July.

The Chapelle Saint-Suliau is dated to 1665 based on the coats of arms of the abbots of Landévennec and houses statues of Saint Suliau, Saint Barbara, Saint Mathurin, the Virgin Mary and Notre-Dame de Grâces.

The Chapelle Sainte-Marie-du-Menez-Hom is known for its calvary and a famous Baroque altarpiece restored in 2010. The Chapelle Sainte-Marie du Menez-Hom in Plomodiern is one of the religious heritage sites highlighted by the intermunicipal tourist office for visits in the surrounding area. The Festival du Ménez-Hom was founded in 1959 and celebrates Breton culture every summer in a festive atmosphere.

Transport Links

Bus route 937 runs from Plomodiern to Quimper. In July and August, three bus routes serve the town centres towards Pentrez Beach in Saint-Nic and Lestrevet Beach in Plomodiern.
