Audierne: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In 1843, one of the first masts of a mast system developed by Julien Hippolyte Fénoux was completed in Audierne. The system was intended to inform ships about the navigability of ports and guide them through difficult waters.

Maritime Heritage

The Church of Saint-Raymond, also known as Saint-Rumon, likewise tells the story of the town’s long history. It dates from the 16th century, while its bell tower was renovated at the beginning of the 18th century. By decree of 11 May 1932, the church was listed as a historic monument.

The Mât Fénoux in Audierne has been protected as a historic monument since 2022. The restored Mât Fénoux is open to visitors. An interpretation trail, complemented by information panels, explains the maritime history, cultural heritage and biodiversity of the area.

The continuous interpretation trail in Audierne extends from the physical bridge to the Sainte-Évette landing stage opposite the former lifeboat station. At the harbour, the Passerelle des Capucins marks the end of the towpath leading to the port of Audierne. Its Eiffel-style metal structure allows the swell at the back of the bay to dissipate without affecting the harbour water or the ships moored there.

The Musée maritime du Cap Sizun was closed to the public in 2020 because it no longer met safety standards.

Nature and Trails

The mouth of the Goyen estuary lies in Audierne. The estuary is a natural area with particularly rich biodiversity, including numerous bird species.

The circular hiking trail Le tour d’Audierne PR® 18 begins at the car park on Quai Jean Jaurès. It is 8.0 km long, takes approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes, and is classified as easy. The trail offers walks through Audierne’s historic districts and along white sandy beaches, as well as views of the mouth of the Goyen.

Harbour and Local Specialities

The port of Audierne is a transit port with connections to Île de Sein and offers moorings for fishing and recreational boating. Audierne is particularly known for sea bass caught by angling and lobster.
