Quéménéven: Apartments and Holiday Homes

Quéménéven lies in the Porzay plain, which stretches inland from the Bay of Douarnenez. The Steïr, a tributary of the Odet near Quimper, meanders through Quéménéven.

Nature and Landscape

At the edge of the Bois du Duc, a short walk along a signposted path leads to the Fontaine de Kergoat. In the vicinity of the Bois du Duc and the Fontaine de Kergoat, you may occasionally hear the call of a roe deer or a long-eared owl.

Culture and History

The parish church of Saint-Ouen in Quéménéven dates back to an initial construction phase in the 16th century. Its west façade was remodelled in 1736, before the church was rebuilt in 1859–1860. The Notre-Dame de Kergoat chapel was listed as a Monument historique on 28 October 1926 and 4 March 1935.

Between the town centre and Kergoat, Geneviève and Césaire de Poulpiquet turned the Manoir de Treffry into a way station in an escape network for Allied airmen.

Festivals and Customs

The route of the Grande Troménie opens every six years and remains accessible for seven days. Two granite crosses of the Grande Troménie are located in Quéménéven, near Trobalo and Bourland.

The Pardon de Kergoat takes place on the Sunday after 15 August and brings together pilgrims and visitors in Breton costumes, with embroidered banners and songs in Breton. The Pardon de Kergoat is followed by suckling pig and Breton dancing.

Events and Visiting

The Notre-Dame de Kergoat chapel is open each year by arrangement with the Quéménéven town hall. During the season from May to October, opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

FromFest takes place every year on an evening in August. At FromFest, festival guests pay 32 euros for access to five concerts and unlimited cheese.
