Argenton: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The small marina of Argenton empties and fills with every tide. It is well protected and sheltered from the winds, making it suitable for a stopover. The harbour’s sandy and muddy bottom provides good footing when the tide goes out.

Sea and Harbour

The Île d’Yock lies off Argenton. During low tide at spring tide, it can be reached by boat or on foot. The island has been shaped by human presence in connection with the sea and reflects the history of the community over the last three millennia. At Argenton’s slipway, the Base nautique Landunvez-Argenton offers sailing and kayaking courses.

Landscape and Paths

The Presqu’île du Vivier borders the left bank of Argenton harbour and can be explored on foot. The walk Balade à Argenton was designed and signposted by the Mein O Kanan association with the support of the municipality of Landunvez.

The Île d’Yoc’h is uninhabited and designated as a nature reserve by the Société d’Études et de Protection de la Nature en Bretagne.

Culture and History

The 16th-century Chapelle Saint-Gonvel stands near Argenton harbour. Historically, it was venerated by sailors, fishermen, boatmasters and merchants. At the base of one corner of the Chapelle Saint-Gonvel, there is a Gallic stele bearing visible engravings.

The Croix de Lorraine in Argenton marks the departure point for civilians and military personnel who left for England in 1940; there, they joined the Forces françaises libres.

The Phare du Four d’Argenton was built between 1869 and 1874 and commissioned in 1874.
