Saint-Gilles-Vieux-Marché: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Saint-Gilles-Vieux-Marché, the historical perspective begins with a Neolithic relic: the menhir in Les Champs de Callac dates from the Neolithic period, has been classified as a historical monument since 26 February 1974, and is privately owned.

History and religious buildings

The Église Saint-Gilles was rebuilt between 1894 and 1896. Inside, there are old statues as well as modern stained-glass windows depicting Saint Gildas and Saint Yves.

Smaller structures also preserve traces of history. The Fontaine de St Gilles Vieux Marché was built from granite and slate, probably at the same time as the former church in 1585. The Chapelle Saint-Yves was almost completely rebuilt in the 18th century and houses an important 18th-century altarpiece.

Bodies of water

The Etang de Poulancre covers an area of 7 hectares; fishing there is managed by the fishing association. The Etang de la Martyre was created as a pike reservoir and is a water reservoir established in the Middle Ages.

Paths and routes

Saint-Gilles-Vieux-Marché has numerous routes that can be explored on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. One specific route is Le Tour des étangs: the route is 7.9 kilometres long, has a moderate level of difficulty and an estimated duration of two hours. It starts at the car park by the church.

Festivals and local life

The Pardon de Saint Gilles takes place every year on the last Sunday in August or the first Sunday in September. The annual Pardon includes a communal meal. In 2025, a musical meal was held, followed by a traditional auction.
