Plouvara: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Menhir dit du Pré de Camet is located in the Pré de Camet district of Plouvara and is privately owned. It dates from the Neolithic period and has been classified as a historic monument since 20 July 1964.

Culture and History

The former Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul church in Plouvara was demolished and rebuilt between 1866 and 1872. It retained its nave, its square pillars made of ordinary stone, and part of its side aisles dating from the 11th or early 12th century.

The Chapelle de Seigneaux was first mentioned as early as 1225 and was successively dedicated to Saint Siniau, Saint Jean, and finally Notre-Dame de la Clarté. The municipality maintains its surroundings and, with the support of an association dedicated to preserving the site, had picnic tables installed.

Plouvara is home to a flat monolithic Merovingian cross that may date from the 7th century. The Croix mérovingienne is located on the road to Seigneaux in the hamlet of La Rue Briend. The Château de la Madeleine was probably built at the beginning of the 20th century and has a square tower on its rear façade. There are traces of Gallo-Roman settlement in Tanouët.

Paths and Spiritual Heritage

According to a traditional devotional ritual at the Fontaine de Notre Dame de la Clarté, people would dip their hand into the basin and rub the water onto their own eyes or those of a child.

The Chapelle Saint-Jacques in Kernier dates from 1702 and was restored in 1952 after having been used as a stable. It is a small chapel with a square floor plan, no bell tower, and is dedicated to Saint James. The Way of Saint James to Beauport Abbey passes the chapel at Kernier; it is located at kilometre 3.0, approximately 45 minutes after the start of the route.

The “Le Petit Couéco” hiking trail is located in Le Petit Couéco in Plouvara and is designated as a circular route. Plouvara also has signposted trails for hiking and mountain biking through wooded areas.
