Squiffiec: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Squiffiec combines sacred history, prehistory and rural culture with the landscape along the Trieux.

Culture and history

The remains of the Kermaria chapel are protected as a French historic monument and have been listed as a Historic Monument since 3 September 1927. In the centre of Squiffiec stands the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Its banner depicts Christ on the cross on the front and the presentation of the rosary to Mary on the back; it is typical of banners from Breton workshops of the 18th century.

In Kercadic near Squiffiec there is a prehistoric covered megalithic passage. The Saint-Jean fountains lie below this structure. The Kerdudalo menhir in Squiffiec also dates back to prehistoric times; the menhirs of Kerdudalou are heritage sites in Squiffiec.

Squiffiec’s small rural heritage includes the flax retting kiln at Kermanac’h. Another historical trace is Squiffiec-Trégonneau railway station, which dates from the early 20th century.

Landscape and trails

The rural landscapes of Squiffiec preserve numerous hedgerows, which are considered typical elements of the Breton bocage.

East of the town centre there is a rest area with picnic tables and toilets. It allows nature lovers and anglers to enjoy the banks of the Trieux. At the same time, it lies along a long-distance hiking trail that follows the Trieux from Argoat to Armor in a north-south direction.
