Runan has been classified as a Commune du Patrimoine Rural de Bretagne since 2009 and is highlighted for its remarkable architectural and landscape features.

Culture and History

The now-vanished market hall of Runan was historically associated with important fairs. The Calvary of Runan was protected as a historic monument in 1951. It has a hexagonal ground plan, is decorated with statues, and has a base shaped like a pulpit.

The ossuary of Runan was restored by the artist Tania Mouraud. Guided tours are offered at the Église Notre-Dame-de-Miséricorde in summer. A discovery guide entitled “Balade du patrimoine” is also available for Runan.

Townscape

A group of chestnut trees stands beside the church enclosure on Runan’s village square. The landscape of Runan includes dry-stone retaining walls; Runan also has a remarkable orchard.

Hiking and Surroundings

Tro Run ar Gan is a 11.9 km circular hike of approximately two hours, of moderate difficulty, marked with yellow trail signs.

The historic site of Abbaye de Begar, Château de Boisgelin, Château de Keralio, and the Tonkedeg fortress are located in the vicinity of Runan.
