Culture and History

The Menhir du Fuseau stands 1.5 km south of the village centre of Plaine-Haute, near the hamlet of L’Hôpital, in a wooded valley bottom with a small stream. The stone is 4.70 m high, has an average thickness of 1.40 m and a circumference of 7.25 m at its base. It dates from the Neolithic period, approximately between 3500 and 1500 BC, and has been listed as a protected historic monument since 8 February 1967.

The Manoir de la Ville Daniel has been listed as a protected historic monument since 31 March 1926. Its construction was completed in 1559 by Nicolas Le Voyer and Peronnelle de Perrien. Its appearance includes a pointed-arch entrance gate and a fortified tower decorated with an unusual festoon near the roof.

The mills also bear witness to the history of the area. The Moulin Neuf ceased operations during the First World War; its hydraulic network is still preserved in Plaine-Haute. The Moulin à farine du Pont Jacquelot flour mill was built in 1836 on the Gouët near Pont Jacquelot. Two pairs of millstones and a grain-sifting machine have been preserved inside.

The Sainte-Anne du Houlin Chapel is located in the hamlet of Sainte-Anne du Houlin, in a valley carved out by the Gouët between Plaine-Haute, Saint-Julien and Ploufragan. Its walls are covered with numerous votive offerings, and the chapel was open to visitors every day. The Pardon de Saint-Anne-du-Houlin is scheduled for the Sunday before 26 July.

Nature

The Chaos du Gouët is a protected area in the middle Gouët valley between the municipalities of Plaine-Haute and Saint-Julien. The Maudouve valley is picturesque and green, although partly difficult to access.

Plaine-Haute is connected to Quintin and Saint-Julien by the C.D. 40. Another access point is at Pont Jacquelot, on the road between Quintin and Malakoff in the municipality of Plaintel.

Hiking

Les Hauts du Gouët is listed as a hiking route in Plaine-Haute. The Les Hauts du Gouët circular trail is 14 km long, takes approximately four hours, is challenging and follows a circular route. It is marked in yellow and starts in the village centre at the sports hall car park or at Sainte-Anne-du-Houlin. Near the circular trail, the Petit Moulin has a water inlet above its wheel.
