Vildé-Guingalan: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Vildé-Guingalan combines prominent reminders of the past with a landscape shaped by wetlands and waterways. In the town centre and its districts, architectural forms, historical traces and local products can be encountered within a small area.

Culture and history

The parish church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste towers over the town centre and forms its highest point. Its floor plan is shaped like a Latin cross and includes a bell-tower porch. The building known as the Commanderie also reflects the history of the place: it consists predominantly of 19th-century buildings. The Commanderie estate appears to have belonged to the landholdings of the Hospitaller Order.

A document issued by the Duke of Brittany lists Vildé-Guingalan among the Templar possessions and mentions a commandery and a chapel there. Several houses in the village of Viel date from the 17th and 18th centuries. A discovered section of the Roman road from Corseul to Rieux dates back even further. It runs along the present-day municipal boundary in the northeast.

Landscape

Numerous wetlands and waterways shape the relief in Vildé-Guingalan and create wooded valleys. The Les Vaux-du-Moulin stream runs through the town centre from south to north. Water, valleys and historic buildings thus create different, clearly recognisable facets of the place.

Geographical location

National Route 176 crosses Vildé-Guingalan from east to west and connects the larger towns in the surrounding area.

Farm and products

La Ferme de Saint-Daniel organises fun activities where visitors can learn about the farm’s edible flowers and plants. The farm produces spices, grains, infusions and edible blossoms.
