Nature and landscape

The Anse d'Yffiniac encompasses 700 hectares of mudflats, sand and salt marshes, including 100 hectares of salt marshes. It is part of the Natura 2000 network and is one of the most important overwintering areas for birds in Brittany.

Access is prohibited in the highly protected area at the back of the Anse d'Yffiniac. Seals can be observed in the surrounding area when they visit the salt marshes of the Anse d'Yffiniac; they can be observed from the shore at Langueux.

Paths and activities

Yffiniac offers 27 kilometres of trails that can be used on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. The GR34 leads to Yffiniac, the southernmost point of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc nature reserve.

The Circuit de l'Urne circular trail starts at the Hippodrome car park in Yffiniac and runs through the Urne Valley towards the bay, as well as through wooded areas and wetlands. The V8 Saint-Brieuc–Lorient cycle route starts in Yffiniac in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc.

The Hippodrome de la Baie offers equestrian shows, pony rides and carriage rides. The Espace de la Baie offers a picnic area and wide views over the back of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc.

In the surrounding area, the Maison de la Baie offers nature excursions all year round focusing on shellfish farming, coastal animals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, as well as plankton. The Maison de la Baie also offers guided excursions and nature walks in the surrounding area to explore the bay.

Culture and history

The Chapelle Saint-Laurent-des-Sept-Saints was restored in 1986. It is a former seigneurial chapel; its nave was rebuilt in 1850, while the choir and transept are said, according to René Couffon, to date from 1681.

The Église Saint-Aubin is a neo-Gothic church from the late 19th century with a Latin-cross floor plan. Construction of the Église Saint-Aubin was completed in 1860; the bell tower was built in 1874.

Food and drink

The Yffiniac Sunday market takes place every Sunday on Place de l'Europe. The Sunday market offers poultry, fish and seafood, fruit and vegetables, olives and saucisson, traditional bread, and cheese.

The Chocard is a local pastry resembling an apple turnover. The Fête des Chocards takes place on the last two weekends of November and includes concerts, a fair and walks.
