Ploumagoar combines the approximately 5-hectare municipal woodland of Bois de Kergré with historic religious buildings, contemporary art and a local memorial site.

Nature and Trails

Bois de Kergré is an approximately 5-hectare municipal woodland. Since 2011, it has had a walking and hiking trail accessible to people with reduced mobility. The woodland also features a 1.3 km interpretation trail with permanently installed works by professional artists.

The Circuit de la Hulotte runs through a landscape where visitors can discover fauna, flora and small-scale cultural heritage. This includes a bread oven, a fountain and a washhouse in St-Hernin.

History and Culture

The Church of Saint-Pierre in Ploumagoar was built by Anfray between 1778 and 1788. Its bell tower was rebuilt in 1852, and the church was restored in 1933. Inside is a baptismal font that is probably a remnant of the earlier church. It is octagonal in shape, with a face adorning each side.

The Sainte-Brigitte Chapel contains elements from an earlier chapel dating from the 15th century. The Fosse de Malaunay provides another historical point of interest: twenty bodies were discovered there in July 1944. Today, the Fosse de Malaunay is an important local memorial site associated with a defining event of the Second World War.

Art and Events

PloumExpo presents exhibitions by contemporary artists working in the visual arts, including painting, sculpture, photography and video. Visitors can meet artists there, discover their work and take part in workshops open to everyone.

Ploumagoar’s Christmas market will take place this year on 27 and 28 November. Numerous local artisans will display their unique creations there. At the fourth edition of the Christmas festivities, local producers will offer sweets, among other things; crêpes, galettes-saucisses, mulled wine and other specialities will also be served.
