Planguenoual: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The Planguenoual coastal walk begins at the Jospinet car park and follows the GR®34 coastal path, known as the Sentier des Douaniers. Along the way, it offers views of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc and the Jospinet mussel-farming park. The route passes the Pigeonnier de Vaujoyeux and the Chapelle Saint-Marc. Its 14-km variant also leads through the traditional rural village of La Cotentin.

Landscape

The coastal cliffs of Planguenoual stretch from Pointe de Longue Roche to the rock formation of Ermeleux. They offer exceptional viewpoints over the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. This coastal landscape also includes Planguenoual’s extensive sandy-muddy foreshore, covering more than 300 hectares and biologically, ecologically and scenically dependent on the Bay of Saint-Brieuc.

Plage de Jospinet is an unsupervised sandy and pebbly beach bordered by rocks, making it suitable for shellfish gathering at low tide.

History and Architectural Heritage

The Pigeonnier de Vaujoyeux has a quatrefoil floor plan and has been classified as a historic monument since 29 December 1982. The Chapelle Saint-Marc was rebuilt in 1859 after having been mentioned as a ruin in 1793. The Chapelle Sainte-Barbe was restored and remodelled in 1822; it stands on the site of an older chapel that, according to René Couffon, dates from the 16th century.

The Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul was built from 1902 to 1903 according to plans by the diocesan architect Le Guerranic and combines elements of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. The Chapelle Saint-Yves du Hourmelin has a rectangular floor plan with a single-nave interior, a polygonal apse and a gable wall with a bell turret. It has been known since the 17th century; René Couffon gives 1863 as the year of its reconstruction, while Henri Frotier de la Messelière gives 1864.

The “Ancienne croix de cimetière, dite croix de jubilé” was erected in 1875 on the occasion of a jubilee and comes from the former cemetery. It is a remnant of a cross made in the workshops of Yves Hernot.

Nature and Plants

Herbarius is a medieval botanical garden in Planguenoual. Its collections include edible, medicinal, aromatic, dye-producing, nectar- and honey-producing, and other useful plants. The orchards of the Cidrerie de la Baie are also managed organically; in addition, numerous measures are implemented to preserve the natural balance of the plots.

Maritime Activities and Regional Delicacies

Coastal activities in Planguenoual include mussel farming on bouchot poles. Le Panier iodé offers the maritime Pesc'Apéro trip, including a tasting of seafood and white wine. As part of Le Panier iodé, visitors can also take a boat trip from the Jospinet landing stage to discover mussel farming in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc.
