Saint-Rieul: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Rieul can be explored through its distinctive reminders of history. In Saint-Rieul, the Cistercian grange of Saint-Sulien had a circular enclosure covering around 40 hectares. Saint-Sulien is also home to the Grand Hôtel, an abbey manor house built in the 16th century.

Culture and History

The churchyard cross in Saint-Rieul dates from around 1700. It depicts the Virgin Mary and Saint John; a Pietà is located on the reverse. The cemetery cross dates from the 17th century, while its base dates back to the 16th century and is decorated with carved angel heads. The cross of L’Hôtier also dates from the 17th century.

Other historical reminders include the oven of La Salle, dating from the 18th to the 19th century, and the Manoir de Beaulieu manor house, dating from around 1760. The communal washhouse of Saint-Rieul bears witness to everyday life in earlier times.

The construction history of the new church is also associated with two dates: the foundation stone was blessed on 12 October 1862, and the church itself was blessed on 8 January 1865.

Landscape

Saint-Rieul belongs to the landscape unit “la vallée du Gouessant et la Penthièvre intérieure”, which in turn forms part of the larger landscape area “la baie de Saint-Brieuc”.

Saint-Rieul is served by Distribus’s Chrono' service, which operates by reservation, in sector 1. “Invitation champêtre” is a hiking route in Saint-Rieul.
